TAMPERE, Finland—Eero Lehtinen is from Tampere, a former marketing manager who turned into an entertainer and clown 25 years ago. He came with his wife Marjatta to see the Chinese Spectacular on Sunday. They were both very impressed by the show.
Eero Lehtinen is working at a large American-style shopping mall, Ideapark, just outside the city of Tampere. His friend, the owner, hired him to work there as "mayor" of Ideapark. When he was working as a clown he used to travel all over Finland.
"I am a different kind of an artist. I am a teetotaler, and have never taken any alcohol and never smoked a cigarette. I have my principles, and it is important to hold high morals," said Mr. Lehtinen.
Mr. and Mrs. Lehtinen have been happily married for 38 years, and as Eero Lehtinen says, "My wife is my best investment, as a human being, and as my beloved wife. Everyday I can say that it is wonderful that I have you in my life."
They both liked the show very much. He continued, "This was the first time we saw this kind of performance live. It was very fine, really great!"
The backdrop and three-dimensional projections on the scene were two of the things Mr. Lehtinen appreciated. "I liked the backdrop very much. It went very well with the dance performances. It was very good. For instance, when the birds became suns and then transformed back to birds when they were shot down, and there was only one sun was left—that is what was needed."
Mr. Lehtinen liked also the dancer's skills and costumes. "These Chinese artists, when compared—of course we have such dancers in Finland—but these are smooth and wonderful. When they jump up high [then] they land silently. That was really wonderful! And the clothes—we could never find such a variety or style in Finland. Really beautiful and touching."
He felt it is helpful to have this kind of show in Finland and other countries. "It is valuable to bring the history to the people here and show it to Finnish people. The words in the songs were touching. And it was nicely done, so at the same time we could read the lyrics in Finnish. I am amazed. I am wondering how everything was so perfectly synchronized.
"We have never seen anything like this. We loved it very much and will definitely come back next year," Mr. Lehtinen concluded.
