TAMPERE, FINLAND—The Chinese Spectacular was received by an enthusiastic audience on Sunday. Since the show was in the afternoon, many families had taken their children with them.

Among the audience were Mr and Mrs Salmiovirta with their five year old daughter Nuppu. They had seen an advertisement in a local morning paper Aamulehti, that inspired them to buy the tickets.

Mrs Kukka Salmiovirta, who is a registered nurse, was particularly fond of the artists' costumes.

"Wonderful costumes, we admired them a lot, and the music was really beautiful. Our daughter Nuppu, liked the opening scene. And I liked especially the 'Nymphs of the Sea'," said Mrs Salmiovirta.

She said she felt there were deep meanings in the performances, which she could not put in words.

Two sweet elderly ladies, Terttu and Sointu who had traveled 80 kilometers from the small town of Ruovesi to see the show were very content to have bought the tickets to the show. Terttu works at the Finnish Social Insurance office, and Sointu, (whose name means "melody") has been a farmer.

"The performance was totally lovely, the movements, the colors, the beautiful clothes and music. The drums were also fantastic. It is very difficult to say in so short time which was better. Every performance was fantastic.

Both Terttu and Sointu were impressed by the backdrop that they said fit the performance very well. The fire that came out from the volcano and the rain in one of the scenes was very realistic.

Another lady in colorful clothes who was sitting in the audience, Helena Petersen Dygve, is a recently retired woman who used to work at the UN as an assistant with the Economic Commission of Europe (ECE).

"The show was really fantastic, especially the male dancers, they were so masculine, and the ladies very beautiful," she commented. She has been dancing at the Letīs Dance School in Helsinki in order to keep fit and therefore she has a special interest in different types of dances.

"I was interested in coming to see the Chinese dances because I have been taking many dancing lessons in different types of dancing." She wanted to give a special message to the Chinese dancers: "I admire these Chinese artists discipline and long training. And I would like to thank them for this."
