MELBOURNE, Australia—June Sutton, a missionary, said the Chinese Spectacular is "excellent".
"Yes, I thought it was excellent. I thought the choreography was just wonderful, the way they did the dancing and things, just very spectacular," she said.
"I saw it advertised, and because I'm very much involved with the Chinese, and I speak a Chinese dialect, then I thought I'd like to see it today," she said at the performance, on Sunday in Melbourne.
Ms Sutton travels to China and has been travelling to Hong Kong for 20 years, spending a couple of months each year abroad. She has seen other shows there, but not this good. "I think this is one of the best I've seen."
She particularly liked the sleeve dance [Water Sleeves], "It was magical, beautiful."
"Of course, the Chinese culture is very long and I think it's very interesting, what came to me all the time was that this is a presentation of how China was.
"And the communists have made it something different. And people are understanding it's a very long culture, and to be quite frank, the communists have only been 50 years or 60 years now, which is not a long time. It's a drop in the bucket compared with 5000 years," she said.
She said she has read and studied Chinese culture at university.
"To me the message was that although communist China would like to see them as one thing, it's actually something quite different, and this is what this presentation is about. It's a long history with a beautiful culture, and many things within it," she said.
