MELBOURNE, Australia—"I've always wanted to see it and this is the first time," said Anne Nguyen who took her family to see the Chinese Spectacular at the Melbourne Arts Centre on Sunday March 30.
The project manager took her mother, sister and niece to the final showing in Melbourne. "They all love it," said Ms Nguyen.
Originally from Vietnam, Ms Nguyen noticed a difference between the ancient Chinese culture depicted in the show to Vietnamese culture.
"Both my mum and I thought [Chinese culture] was probably better. We thought the Chinese are a lot more artistic in the way they perform. I think the Vietnamese do as well, but not to the extent that the Chinese do it. I think in the past they have always been leading in that type of thing — about culture. And I just get the impression the Vietnamese tend to follow rather than [lead]. We do have some of our own traditional dances, but they're really simple, if you compare it to the Chinese."
Young Sophie Tran was thrilled her aunty brought her along to see the show. The six-year-old was in awe of the dancers – "pretty pink girls" who used classical Chinese dance techniques "because they were really nice". Sophie said she would tell all her school friends about the Chinese Spectacular.
