MELBOURNE, Australia—Kevin Andrews, a former Immigration Minister in the Howard government, saw the Spectacular with his family on Saturday, March 29.
"It was certainly appropriately named—It was spectacular," Mr Andrews said.
"I thought the Mongolian tea dance was extremely good. The various stand dancers. They were all colourful. It's probably unfair to pick out one part rather than the other."
Mr. Andrews was referring to the "Mongolian Bowl Dance," where performers dance with bowls balanced on their heads.
As an insight into Chinese culture, he said the Spectacular had been effective.
"It offered a sensitive portrayal of Chinese culture and its long history," he said.
"I had an understanding of Chinese. It brings to light aspects of Chinese culture".
Commenting on the morality tales in some of the performances, Mr. Andrews said "My personal belief I suppose is that most if not all humans have a sense of morality—some sort of ethical framework in which they live—and I think a denial of that is a denial of our human nature."
Mr Andrews wife, Margaret, said she had also enjoyed the Spectacular "very much".
"It thought it was a mixture of beauty and grace. The Manchurian women were very elegant and then there were other narrative dances, but I enjoyed it all.
"I learnt about ancient Chinese dancing and culture."
