MELBOURNE, Australia—Retired business owner Reni Cassidy was "so blown away" after seeing Saturday afternoon's performance of the Chinese Spectacular at the State Theater in Melbourne.

"I wish I could wrap everything up and take it home with me. I didn't want to leave. I thought they might have an encore so we could clap again."

The singing and dancing really touched Ms. Cassidy, but it was the depth of the performances and the cultural representation that she truly praised.

"It was culture, but real-life culture, like you wouldn't get in a museum or a book, you have to see it."

"I do a lot of meditation and I think that's why it touched me so much.

"The representation of the Buddha was just so beautiful. It was holy but at the same time there were little amusements.

"There is so much feeling and emotion in the dancing. Ballet dancing I don't like, but this isn't ballet dancing, this is like real life."

"Every movement ... at times I could cry, I misted up a few times. I said to my sister 'Good heavens, there are tears there.'- because of the beautiful words you see. And the dancing was so expressive. Ballet is cold, but this was so warm. ... Sometimes there are no words for the beauty of it.

"Even the men, they were so expressive in their dancing ... and the costumes - they put so much into it.

"I can understand the stories, I can understand it all and that blew me away, because I didn't think I would. Because of the hand movements, expressions and how they danced."

Ms. Cassidy's favourite performance was "everything".

"The lady opera singer, she was just absolutely beautiful. And the words, because you could read the words you could put more to it. The last man, his singing was just ... and of course the costumes and the dancing. The waterfall was just tremendous; I haven't seen anything like it. The culture is just so wonderful. I knew I read about it, but to actually see it.

"It was just the best; I don't want to go home."
