MELBOURNE, Australia—Ballet dancer Jessica Bertalmio enjoyed the difference between Chinese dance and classical ballet at the premier of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular when it premiered at the State Theatre in Melbourne March 28.

"I found it very different compared to classical ballet as I am a classical ballerina but it is nice to see all the soft movements and elegance of their dancing. It is really beautiful and the stories that they tell, like how they tell them, it is very nice."

Jessica said she had learnt a lot about Chinese culture from watching the show.

"It's from the stories. You learn a lot about how it is different compared to here."

Michael Lu business strategist and marketing advisor, said he did not know much about ballet but enjoyed learning about Chinese culture.

"I think it's great showing the Chinese music and Chinese dance. I think it does teach a bit about the culture and about the history."

'They can't express it in China but they can here'

Michael said he had travelled a lot in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan and thought it was good the show had shown a contemporary scene which depicts the persecution of a Falun Gong practitioner.

"I think the show is quite interesting. I mean I am not an expert in this field of ballet mixing with the Chinese traditional dance. One thing I find interesting is the mixing of political agenda with the dance regarding with Falun Gong. I think China should have the message. They can't express it in China but they can here, so I find it interesting." Michael said of all the scenes in the performance the 'Mongolian Bowl Dance' had appealed to him most.

"My favourite, well it would have to be the Mongolian Dance with the bowl on top of the head. I'm not sure what was it called, but I think it was very well done. I liked it very much."
