MELBOURNE, Australia—"Over the years I've been to many Chinese community functions and events. I have to say that this is by far the most professional and impressive performance that I've seen," said Victorian State MP Jenny Mikakos after the premier of Spectacular at Melbourne's State Theatre March 28.

Ms Mikakos said the show had given her a greater understanding of Chinese culture, and had enjoyed all the performances.

"It's given me a good insight into different aspects of Chinese culture. It's important for Australians to appreciate the fact that Chinese culture has been around for 5000 years, which probably many Australians don't realize. So I thought every aspect of the performance so far has been very interesting".

Ms Mikakos said she had appreciated the strong message on human rights in the show.

"I certainly welcome that. I think it's very important that the Australian community and the International community understand that there are serious human rights abuses going on in China today and I think it's important that the performance is conveying that message.

"I hope this year in particular, people will take more of an interest of what is going on in the human rights situation in China. And I certainly welcome China becoming more open."
