STOCKHOLM—The Chinese Spectacular is dazzling audiences around the world with its presentation of traditional Chinese culture through music, dance, and mythical storytelling. The Divine Performing Arts show runs for five nights in Stockholm at the Circus Theater.
Carina Lindquist, who is a computer programmer for a large telephone company, was in attendance at the Spectacular on Thursday.
"It was great—my favorite were the performances with the drums which thought were very powerful. I also thought that 'Water Sleeves' was good—as it gave the feeling of water."
She thought that the costumes and the overall environment and atmosphere presented within the show was good. She also agreed with some of the insights presented in the show's content.
"You have to think about others first and you have to be kind in life. You should take care of other people around you because it will come back around to you. Everything that you do has consequences."
Louise Ikblom and Marguerita Angalif attended the Stockholm show together.
Ikblom, who has an interest in Eastern culture said, "It was a new experience. We have been to China, but this was a new experience. We have seen shows in China but not like this. ... It's very, very good. I like the show very, very much.
"I like the dresses, and [the Mongolian Bowl Dance ] with the cups on the head, that was very good, very, very interesting. There are also stories. They explain it very well. It's very interesting, and the singer was very good. The second, I thought especially—she has a very good voice."
Nichole, originally from Germany and now living in Stockholm with her husband, said, "It is fantastic! The dancers look very, very nice—very nice costumes. It gives us a good idea about the history of China. I liked it a lot."
Nichole added, "I think the drums were really nice, and the girls with the teacups [the Mongolian Bowl Dance ] were very nice. I think it was interesting to see something from a perfect world where we don't talk about violence and other things and put it in a dance version—very, very nice to see."
Nichole commented on The Loyalty of Yue Fei, the piece about the general and his mother and the meaning of the tattoo on his back. She liked the dramatization of the general's conflict over whether to fight for his country or stay home and take care of his aging mother.
Nichole also appreciated that the theme of human rights and Falun Gong were raised in the show. She said, "Every country has some issues to address; it's good that it presents that as well as the beautiful side of life."
