STOCKHOLM, Sweden—The Divine Performing Arts dance company impressed its Swedish audience last night with the Chinese Spectacular, currently playing at Stockholm's Circus Theater.

Sven Erikson, a retired biologist's assistant who used to work at Stockholm university, said he wasn't familiar with Chinese shows but that didn't stop him from enjoying the Spectacular.

"I think it's a very nice show and I liked especially the dancing and acrobats. That's very good to see."

He was particularly impressed by the drummers. "They were so exact, at the same time, all of them ... It was very good"

Eriksson said he enjoyed the mix of Chinese and Western instruments in the orchestra and appreciated the large projection screen that put each performance in a living landscape.

"That was very good. In some ways it showed the story. And also the costumes were very good."

He described the show's combination of singing, dancing and drumming as "a very good mixture."

Eriksson added that it was good to see things beyond the typical dance and opera performances usually present in Sweden.

"We are very curious about China, especially the olden China."

That comment was echoed by another man who works in the graphics industry.

"It's a very good culture you have in China," he said.

Regarding the Spectacular, he said, "I like it very much, thank you."

Hairdresser Anne Vegrin said the show was "very nice. I like the clothes especially. It is so manly and it is very colorful."

"I like it very much. It is a little bit like ballet," she said of the classical Chinese dances.

Vegrin said her favorite performances were the drummers and the dance depicting the legend of Yue Fei, a Chinese general known for protecting China.

"It was about being loyal," she said of the dance.
