STOCKHOLM, Sweden—Monday night's Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at Stockholm's Circus Theater delighted the audience, among them Luli Stinamam, an Amnesty International associate.

"I liked it very, very much. It was very beautiful and colorful. We were filled with so many different emotions during the show," said Stinamam.

Like so many others from the audience, Ms. Stinamam especially enjoyed Victory Drums and Drummers of the Tang Court.

"My favorites were the drum scenes, followed by the Tibetan scene, Snowy Mountain, White Lotus. The long sleeves were something unique, just excellent. I enjoyed the show. It is difficult to chose ones favorite because everything was so exquisite and truly beautiful."

Seeing scenes from a different culture, especially the ancient traditions of the Chinese culture that have not been seen before in this hemisphere, was exciting for many in the audience.

"The ancient Chinese culture — it is so very special. It is amazing that so much is actually based on Chinese traditions. Let's just think about modern ballet. Where does it have its roots? I think China's culture is a very important culture."

As a forty-year member of Amnesty International, Ms. Stinaman is quite familiar with the human rights situation in China.

"I sincerely hope that China will become a democracy as soon as possible, because so many people long for it desperately.

"Total democracy means freedom of the press and freedom of speech. Yes, that is what I hope for. That could be called free. I'm very worried about the young man who was sentenced a few weeks ago…I can't think of his name."

She noticed that someone had booed during the show when the host mentioned Falun Gong.

"Well, I think they have to respect the democracy that we have here. I'm glad that this show has come here. I heard, when the host talked about Falun Gong, a "boo" from someone, and I said to my daughter 'Maybe it's a representative from the [Chinese] embassy shouting boo' and we shouted 'No more.'"
