STOCKHOLM, Sweden—As it continues its run at Stockholm's Circus Theater, the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular has been getting rave reviews and standing ovations.
Due to the strong With many sold-out performances, the Spectacular will play an extra performance in April in Stockholm in April.
Celebrities are turning out to experience the dance, drumming and soul-stirring traditions from China's past, traditions that are now establishing a new era in China's history.
Simon Kaijser da Silva, a film director from Stockholm, attended Tuesday's show.
"It was very interesting. My only reference to Chinese culture has been Chinese films so you can recognize certain things from film—so very interesting. Like the use of fabric in dances and this sort of almost martial art-like acrobatic dance, sort of a mix between dance and acrobatics and martial arts," said da Silva.
He enjoyed several of the acts.
"I liked the Mongolian horse dance [ Herding on the Mongolian Plains ], especially some of the movement where they sort of imitated riding. Very, very nice—very simple means but very effective.
"I also liked Nymphs of the Sea when they used the blue fans. That was very nice. The fabric again was very effective."
Will the Divine Performing Arts unwittingly influence the Swedish director's next project? We'll have to wait and find out.
