STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Performers in the Chinese Spectacular received a rousing standing ovation from an enthusiastic audience at Stockholm's Circus Theatre on Monday evening. Lotta Lindquist, a fashion designer who owns her own company shipping clothing all over Scandinavia, was highly impressed with the costumes and the colors in the show.
"The colors are just beautiful. I had a meeting early in the morning and we were picking out colors and now I must go home and pick out new colors," she said, laughing. "Because now I think — it was so colorful. I'm so glad because the impression was very nice."
She commented on one of the acts that features a contemporary tragedy in China — the persecution of Falun Gong, now in its ninth year.
"The part when all the people, when the sign of Falun Gong [Truth, Compassion and Tolerance]… it was really getting into my heart. It was typical for all people in the world I think. You must stand up for what you believe in. I started to cry it was so good. It really gets into your skin."
Regarding efforts by the Chinese Embassy in Stockhom to stop the show, Lindquist said, "They can try because the harder they try the worst it will be for them, I think, because everyone is getting more interested."
Lindquist came to the Spectacular because she has a six-year-old adopted daughter from china who she wants to expose to Chinese culture.
"I always wanted to adopt, from when I was a little girl I wanted to adopt a child because the whole world is full of children who needs a parent. And I couldn't get my own so for me it was the same, actually…. And I really wanted a girl from China."
There were many families attending the show who had adopted children from China. They had all adopted through the same association, which had an announcement about the show in its newsletter.
"The whole show was really, really nice," added Lindquist. "I liked it very much."
