STOCKHOLM, Sweden—After a well-received showing in Finland, the Chinese Spectacular show came to Stockholm. The Divine Performing Arts entertained an appreciative crowd at the Circus Theater Monday evening Spectacular .
The show completely sold out in Stockholm on Easter Monday, with standing ovations and four curtain calls.
Martin Falkenström, a contractor engineer in a construction company, was interviewed during the intermission. He said everyone with an interest in China should see the show.
"It is very exotic, you may say, great fun. Interesting and exciting - catchy colours and a lot of sounds- it's good."
His friend, Gabriella Cwiro, studies social work and public administration. She said the show was exciting.
"It almost feels like you are abroad, actually, that is in China. Very different, a different outline from what you are used to."
She said she learned about the Chinese history and culture through performance and particularly the dancing.
"You learn something from the whole performance, because it is new to me, so then you learn. But history, I probably don't remember it now, but there is a little about history in the intermissions, it is a little hard to remember exactly what they say."
She said someone with a little prior knowledge of China could probably get a lot from the show.
"It is probably fun if you also already know something about it [China's history]. Then they may take it in better, if they already know a little about it, that you maybe see more and appreciate more."
"Because I can imagine that they are maybe doing a lot of things [that we don't notice], and then they are so many so that one easily believes that it is easier than it is, but as a matter of fact all the things are complicated."
Local residents Cecilia and her husband Saul shared their impression of the show. Cecilia remarked, "It was a great show, very nice."
Saul is a professional dancer who hails from Cuba and specializes in the salsa and other Latin American dances. When asked what he liked most about the show, he replied, "Any of the dances…For me, everything was fantastic!"
Cecilia, who does body work through Pilates and massage, said she dances only as a hobby. However, she was most moved by the choreography and the performers' skill. "The choreography, the timing, the movements, the clothes!" she exclaimed, summing up her experience of the show.
