STOCKHOLM--Kenneth Lindquist is an European Community Advisor involved in international projects. He saw the Chinese Spectacular in Stockholm.
"It's an excellent show. It's very well-prepared. I liked the mixture between Western feelings and Asian tradition" He explained what he meant by mixture as "There is the modern world portrayed in the shows and there is this tradition mixed in, in a way. I liked that because it gives a free and modern way of interpreting the old Chinese traditions."
Mr. Lindquist has been Senior Regional Development Adviser for the United Nations and Consultant for the World Bank. Since 1993 he has been Managing Director of the Swedish TelePedagogic Knowledge Centre (STPKC), which has markets in Europe, Africa and Asia. His favorite parts of the show were the "young boys that were having a life experience" (The Fruits of Goodness) and the Falun Gong pieces, "because it was a very good show… and it was very clearly portrayed, what was happening, without explanations, only by the dance and the movement, portrayed very well what the message was."
He found the cultural message of the show to be "different from the purposeful and very nice. Many of the shows we've seen previously are government driven or state politics, and this one feels a little bit more independent."
Mr. Lindquist had heard of the Chinese embassy attempts to prevent the show from being seen and to harass businesses associated with the show, and thought "it's very sad if that would be taking place because this one has a very good message. So I hope it will be not in that. On the other hand, I hope it will be repeated on a yearly basis."
