STOCKHOLM—Magnus Rosén travelled early on Thursday from Gothenburg, Sweden, to see the opening show of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at the Circus theatre in Stockholm, where he himself has performed with the group Hammerfall and the singer Roger Pontare, and has been nominated for the Swedish Grammy Awards no less than four times.
"I thought the music was very nice. Especially the erhu felt very exotic. It is exciting to hear music from other countries. It was nice with all the dancers, and the costumes were very colourful. The message is very important,"said Rosén, as he was holding a little Chinese tea cup in the VIP reception area after the show.
"I experience that it is the government that doesn't allow them [Chinese people] to have free mind and it is verified that many Falun Gong practitioners are being killed. No normal human being believes it [the persecution of Falun Gong] is good. The message [of the performance] is meant to awaken the attention of people, in order to take a stand and react."
Rosén thought that the message was made clear and that the performance conveyed China's exciting history.
"When you hear about the oppression, that is an eye-opener. I believe all normal people are against it. Then you might work and act in different ways. It is a good thing to take a stand in different ways."
Amidst enthusiastic applaud for some of the Spectacular performers who entered the reception area to meet the audience, Rosén continued, "The show is divided into short episodes and that is something new to many, and different. The songs were exciting as well, and they were nice breaks in between. The music was of good and high quality, and so were the dancers."
"It was interesting with the pictures in the background," said Rosén, referring to the digital backdrop that matches every performance. Rosén found it "interesting" that the picture was animated and not still.
"I thought was a bit fun. I haven't seen that before, where you make use of the motion and infuse it with the performance itself."
