STOCKHOLM, Sweden—Georg Wikman, scientist, physicist and founder of the Swedish Herbal Institute traveled 490 km from Gothenburg to attend the Stockholm premiere of the Chinese Spectacular on Thursday. He found the show not only entertaining but also meaningful.
"It is very visual. And I appreciate the features about different cultures, Mongolian, Tibetan, and I think I recognize some Indian too," Wikman said.
He said Chinese dance is not only technique, but also form and meaning at the same time.
Wikman enjoyed the Mongolian Bowl Dance and Lady in the Moon, which he said was "very beautiful." Above all he was very impressed by the Drummers of the Tang Court and Victory Drums.
"The drum numbers are enormously fascinating. One feels that it is really in touch with the times."
He said the show contains deeper meanings. Although he does not consider himself being inclined to any special ideology or religion, Wikman said he always sympathized with anything that is ideological or philosophical. He said he supports freedom of choice and does not approve of suppression.
The New York-based Divine Performing Arts has been staging the Spectacular since 2004. Its 2008 world tour includes 220 shows in over 60 cities, reaching a total live audience of about 650,000. The tour spans four continents — Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America.
