PARIS—"My wife is of Chinese origin and recognized the essence of ancient Chinese cultural in the Spectacular, " said Alain Feivet, a real estate agent from Paris.
Feivet was referring to the Divine Performing Arts' Chinese Spectacular, currently playing at the Palais des Congres in Paris, which he attended Saturday with his wife.
"It was lovely and romantic," said Feivet. He was especially impressed with the choreography, saying it was "extremely well done."
Feivet was impressed with the authentic, handmade costumes. "The costumes were magnificent, absolutely magnificent."
The 50-piece live orchestra, with its blend of Western and Chinese instruments, was one of Feivet's favorites. He thought the music was wonderful and an excellent addition to the individual scenes.
"And the two hosts were exceptional," said Feivet. He could follow the idea behind the scenes from the host's explanation and found the translation helpful in getting an understanding of what was transpiring on stage. Linda Sinieng, a press attaché at the Memorial de Caen, a World War II museum and a memorial dedicated to peace, felt that the orchestra brought harmony to the Spectacular and was spiritually uplifting.
"It's like a poem. It's like traveling. When you close your eyes, you get the impression of being taken away," said Sinieng.
She was impressed by the dance scenes and especially the costumes.
"One would like to touch them, because they are so beautiful. They look so light and colorful."
"I think it's important that the two hosts explain and put things into the right context, and that they prepare the audience to embark in the discovery of the elements of ancient Chinese culture," she added.
"These small commentaries between the acts helped to bring us into the right atmosphere, into the history and the legend—it's very well done."
After Paris, the Divine Performing Arts tour will continue on to Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
