PARIS—When the artists of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular took their curtain calls at the Palais des Congrès in Paris on Saturday, the applause from the audience was so loud and lasting that the performers had to return to the stage again and again.

In fact, Parisians responded to every program during the show with warm applause and cheers. Jean-Francois Parde, president of SsangYong France, and his wife were among them

"It's magnificent." he said. "I've never seen a show like this. The dances, the costumes and the music are all just perfect."

Parde said he knew only a little about Chinese culture and even less about Chinese history, but he learned from the show.

"I think since China's history is much longer than ours, its culture must be much richer that ours too," he said.

Parde said that China must have changed a lot since the ancient times that created the great culture that the show presented.

"I admire Divine Performing Arts for truthfully reserving the original Chinese culture. It's the root and the heritage of China," he said. "The Divine Performing Arts obviously has inherited this precious heritage."

Mrs. Parde, a pharmacist, also found the Spectacular a pleasant surprise.

"It's most wonderful and interesting," she said. "I knew little about Chinese culture before, and didn't know about Chinese classic dance. The Buddhist figures and temples presented in the show fully presented the beauty of the ancient culture."

After Paris, the Divine Performing Arts tour will continue on to Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
