TAIPEI, Taiwan—Lai Hsiu-feng, president of Taiwan National Dance Association, attended the 4th performance of the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) Chinese Spectacular in Taipei on March 16. She said that the performances of the Spectacular are creative and the main themes are presented in a "precise fashion", making the show "very good and worth watching."

Lai said that she regretted missing DPA's 2007 Spectacular due to her busy schedule and was determined to watch the show this year.

"The Spectacular is a comprehensive show of arts. The stage design, lighting, and background projection are perfectly matched. The costumes are not vulgar but refreshing. The performers possess excellent dancing techniques. I can tell that they have gone through rigorous training," said Lai.

"The actors revealed their gracefulness when performing elegant dancing pieces while showing strength and vigor when performing Victory Drums and Drummers of the Tang Court. Their movements are clean and precise, which is excellent. It shows the masculinity of male and the gracefulness of female in Chinese traditional culture. The Spectacular also clearly represents different distinctness of men and women."

"All programs are well-knit," Lai continued, "The DPA does not perform programs casually. It seems to me they put in a lot of time in making the show. They are not only creative, but also are able to represent the central theme in a short time."

Lai thinks that Lady of the Moon, one of the performances in Spectacular which is based on a Chinese legend, is innovative. She said that Chinese people usually think of the rabbit of the moon, the beautiful lady, and her husband Houyi when referring to this story. The DPA reminds us the other part of the Chinese myth in which Houyi shot down 9 suns to rescue people who were dying under the heat, Lai said. After watching the show, she said she feels another level of beauty.

Lai Hsiu-feng was born in Dongshi, Taiwan. She is the president of Taiwan National Dance Association. She has won 8 championships in national folk dancing contests in 7 years.
