HAMBURG, Germany—After seeing the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at Hamburg's Theater on the Harbor on Monday evening, Wei Shanshan had high praise for the unique cultural show.

"The show is really well done. I am touched, particularly by the Emerging Lotus Blossom dance. I could barely contain my tears. All audience members around me were in tears," said Wei during the intermission.

A designer, Wei is the sister of prominent Chinese human rights advocate Wei Jingshen.

"The show portrays [Chinese] history so well. Viewing the segment where a Falun Gong practitioner ascends to heaven reminded me immediately of the Falun Gong practitioners in China who are still hunted. They also ought to be able to see this dance, as encouragement. It would be grand if all of them could ascend to heaven like that. I wish for that."

Wei was referring to a scene in the show which touches on a contemporary tragedy in China: the persecution of Falun Gong, a meditation practice and spiritual discipline currently being brutally suppressed by the Chinese regime.

Wei was impressed by soprano Jiang Min's first aria, saying it portrayed strength and had uncovered the dishonesty of the Chinese regime. Ms. Wei also enjoyed Nymphs of the Sea.

"I sensed the pure beauty. The movements are simple, but absolutely pure and elegant."

She said the westerners in the audience would comprehend this kind of dance much better than the dances that portray historic events and voiced great admiration for the performers' artistic accomplishments.
