HAMBURG, Germany—Rafale Pilscek from Hamburg, executive director at a public relations firm, was among the audience at the premiere of the Chinese Spectacular at Hamburg's Theatre in the Harbor on Monday.
"This was a total surprise, because it was so unique, with different scenes, because it is a cultural universal show. We listened to ripping drum effects that carry one along. Especially impressive were the quiet moments during song and dance. They all called for an encore," said Pilscek.
"Overall, it was different from what one generally sees. I must say, it is more daring than what I generally get to see from China, because it includes scenes that address suppression and violence."
Pilscek was referring to two scenes in the Spectacular that touch upon a modern-day tragedy in China: the eight-year persecution of Falun Gong. Falun Gong is a meditation practice currently being brutally suppressed by the Chinese communist regime.
