Snow and Gales Forecast for Easter Weekend

LONDON—The weather will turn much colder towards the end of this week, with snow and gales forecast for nothern and eastern parts of Britain, the Met Office said on Monday.

Strong winds and showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow are expected to make conditions feel particularly raw and unpleasant.

Northern and eastern areas of the country are likely to see the worst conditions, with blizzards over high ground, while central and southern regions should see the best of any sunshine.

"There is going to be a cold snap across the whole of the UK," said Byron Chalcraft, national forecaster at the Met Office. "The wind and the risk of snow showers is lasting a bit longer in the East".

The Met Office said it was working closely with Network Rail to help it assess the impact of the weather on rail transport.
