TAIPEI—Yue-Min Wan, a dedicated Peking opera teacher at the National Taiwan Junior College of Performing Arts, was in the audience during the Divine Performing Arts premiere in Taipei on March 15, 2008.
When interviewed by our reporter during the intermission, Wan expressed, "It is truly a superb performance. The Divine Performing Arts has expressed the artistic conception very vividly, which makes me feel very warm and kind of overwhelmed. The looks in the dancers' eyes and the strength of their movements are all magnificent and exquisite." Wan added, "I like the programs of the 'Drummers of the Tang Court' and the 'Descent of the Celestial Kings' the most. The former is breathtaking and has a great impact on people's hearts. I felt like I had actually seen the Tang Dynasty's fabulous and exquisite culture. It is indeed a wonderful and inspiring act. My other favourite seemed to have refreshed my soul greatly, as if I was bathing in the spring wind. I felt like I had melted into the program. It seemed like a strong energy pouring into my heart, and it made me feel so comfortable."
Talking about the act called 'Lady of the Moon', Wan commented that the backdrops and the dancers were meticulously matched, with the excellent application of high technology enhancing the show. Saying, "I was deeply touched by every movement and posture of the dancers as well as the spiritual inheritance they conveyed."
As to the program called 'Water Sleeves', Wan said, "The entire performance was magnificent, and the dancers have a very expressive. Through dancing, they vividly portrayed the tender graciousness of females in ancient China. We can feel all the connotations they intended to get across to us."
At the end, Wan praised the entire show saying it was 'fantastic'. Exclaiming, "I could feel that the dancers danced not only with their bodies but also with their hearts. The audience can appreciate the dancers' physical expressions and the artistic conception presented on the backdrop." She finally shared that, it was truly wonderful to see the performance today.
