WASHINGTON, D.C.—On March 15, approximately 60 renowned overseas Chinese human rights activists issued a joint letter condemning the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) brutal repression in Tibet. They also appealed to the international community to boycott the Beijing Olympics.

Headquarters of the exiled Tibetan government in India said that they had received unconfirmed reports that the police killed as many as 100 Tibetans.

The open letter said, "The Chinese regime continues to massacre Tibetans under the watchful eyes of the world. This kind of conduct can only be described as impudent and shameless to blatantly slight human dignity in front of the whole world."

They also said in the letter that last week's massacre was not an isolated incident, but a systematic crude destruction of Tibetan culture conducted openly by the CCP for dozens of years. This illegal and insecure regime also used military force without hesitation, ignoring the dignity of the people under its rule. The only purpose of the Chinese regime is to hold onto their control of power at all cost.

In China, every day people are arrested, imprisoned and detained without legal due process, and common citizens are deprived of their property and deprived of exercising their right to freedom of speech.

Blessing the Massacre with Olympic Gold?

"What should our response be? Should we use Olympic gold metals to bless this kind of massacre? For those who answer "yes," please take a side trip to Lhasa on your way to Beijing and walk over the corpses of the innocent Tibetans and monks; their only crime is to freely and peacefully practice their faith and their way of life." said the letter.

The letter also urges all governments around the world, not to keep silent, that gives the communist regime the message that they can trample their citizens' innate rights and receive benefits and profit from Olympic gold metals at the same time.

President Bush...

The letter also appealed to U.S. President Bush, "Standing in front of massacred Tibetans, tell them if you are going to be a guest at the Olympics."

The Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition also issued an open statement on the same day saying, "While international society is watching for the arrival of the 2008 Olympics, the CCP regime once again chose its iron fist to respond to the call for freedom and peace."

The Coalition also warned, "We can use reasonable ways to conduct negotiations with reasonable political parties, but to negotiate with a kind of hoodlum government like the CCP, it is impossible to carry out serious and earnest negotiations if no sufficient pressure is exerted."

Where Is the Olympic Spirit?

The Coalition also expressed its rage to International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge for ignoring the Olympic spirit.
