BERLIN—On March 16th, New York-based dance company, Divine Performing Arts performed its final Chinese Spectacular at the International Conference Center in Berlin. Cornelia Behm, a Member of the German Parliament (Green Party) was in the audience.
"It is something special and touching," she said after attending the show.
Member of Parliament, Behm said she found the dances that dealt with contemporary China's human rights issues particularly interesting and that the 'Spectacular' opens a way for Germans to learn about both ancient and modern China and perhaps inspire them to stand up for human rights in that country.
"It is a good way to awaken interest about China with such a show, as well as human rights, and a peaceful coexistence" said the legislator. She added that the timing of the show in relation to the upcoming Beijing Olympics was good because of the unique opportunity to request the Chinese government to adhere to human rights.
Member of Parliament, Behm said the dance about three female Falun Gong practitioners who were tormented because of their beliefs made a particular impression on her.
"The choreography was very well done," she said.
"I find it good that hope is being expressed in all these performances and that it eventually turns out for the better."
The Member of Parliament said she doesn't know anything about Chinese philosophy and had not visited the country so Sunday's show was a first for her and she enjoyed it. Member of Parliament, Behm also said the ways in which traditional Chinese philosophy was displayed through the dances inspired her to perhaps visit China for herself.
Overall, she said "I will take very beautiful impressions with me."
