BERLIN—Ossama bin Abdul Majed Shobokshi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, attended the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at Berlin's International Congress Centre on March 15th.
Commenting later, he said the show was "very beautiful, pleasant to watch and rich in cultural meaning. It reflected the beauty of China miraculously. The movements were graceful, the music was beautiful and the performances were pretty and wonderful."
He added that "the dancers were able to present stories without using words and everyone could understand. That is the beauty about it."
The ambassador has a prior relationship with Chinese culture. His brother was the Saudi ambassador to China for several years.
"China is a country with a rich cultural history. Everyone should learn some Chinese wisdom, of course, if they have an opportunity," he said.
Bin Abdul Majed Shobokshi said he had read and followed the show's program book, which provides explanations of the song lyrics and dance pieces.
"It is interesting to see the conflict between Chinese culture and Chinese communism. The spirit of the Chinese, I mean the people, is huge. It stays alive forever. You can't defeat people's spirit, the spirit remains. Hope will forever stay with the Chinese. This is really good."
He would recommend his friends see the show, because "it is rich in culture, very amusing, very interesting. Above all, you can learn much from it. It gives you a glimpse into Chinese philosophy."
