BERLIN—Professional ballet dancer Ming Yang attended the Saturday evening performance of the Chinese Spectacular at Berlin's International Congress Center with her husband, Peter Kilst, who owns a leather cleaning company.
When asked about the show, she couldn't reply in English, but her husband translated for her. "She is very impressed [by] the unity of the dances—absolutely the same movements. And she is astonished about this," he said.
She especially liked the drum numbers and also the "water fairies" ["Nymphs of the Sea"]. "It was very easy with the features and the movements of water," she said, her husband translating. "The dance contains a lot of temperament and movement, but can also be very slow."
She compared ballet to Chinese traditional dance, saying: "The greatest difference is that [in] classic ballet the movement is kind of dancing. And here you see more movement with hands. The kind of movement is different. She likes both but there is a distinctive difference," said her husband.
"For me," Mr. Kilst added, "this is the first time here. I like also the ballet. But I like this very much, … it is very good for me."
Michael A. Orloft, a professor of engineering, also attended the Saturday evening show with his wife, Valentina. He said he was impressed with the show and that they both enjoyed the Chinese dances.
Prof. Orloft commented, the "different dancing and singing is absolutely perfect. It is very nice."
His wife added, "I also like the costumes, the colors, the singers and the dancers—it was perfect."
