PARIS—On a weekend run, from February 29 to March 2, the Divine Performing Arts presented four Chinese Spectacular shows in Paris, the Art Capital of Europe. More than 10,000 people attended the shows. Among the very diverse audience, there were many who said the show was 'Spectacular!'
Renowned human rights lawyer, Mr. Claude Ducreux, his wife and their daughter Cateryne, both of whom are lawyers too, came to the Saturday performance.
Mr Ducreux had been a student of Georges Pompidou, a former president of France (1969-1974). Mr Ducreux shared that he has devoted his whole life to human rights endeavours.
Currently, Mr Ducreux is the Secretary General of the French Resistance Movement. On being asked his thoughts on the Spectacular, he said, "It's a wonderful performance. Nowadays people have ignored the kind of ancient traditions that are depicted in the show. It conveys a message of freedom. We have been waiting for something like this for a long, long time!"
"I felt as if I were at Tiananmen Square again"
"It's very difficult to help Chinese people understand the concept of human rights." Mrs Ducreux explained, "However, respect is very important when it comes down to understanding human rights. We must emphasize mutual respect for the strong and the weak."
Mrs Ducreux added, "In the dance program 'Power of Awareness', the plot is so ingeniously conceived with the little girl playing the leading role! I was very moved by the ending. I felt as if I were at Tiananmen Square again."
Their daughter Cateryne also enjoyed the ethnic dances, saying, "The performances were very beautiful. I really enjoyed the Mongolian and Tibetan dances. Giving minorities a place to represent their culture, promotes interpersonal harmony."
Mr Ducreux said at the end: "The backdrops reminded me of the scenery I saw in my childhood in the regions north of Beijing. It rekindled my memories about many of the things I experienced and the people I met during my travels."
