BERLIN—"The programs for me were like a dream. It was like going in another dimension," said Magrite Bahawa, who saw the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular on its inaugural night in Berlin on March 14.
"I would like to say that I was expecting a lot, but I am more than satisfied and happy. There was much more happiness and more enjoyment than I was expecting," said Bahawa, whose responsibility is developing cultural activities for the Peruvian Embassy in Berlin
Bahawa was particularly touched by The Risen Lotus Flower act, which portrays three women Falun Gong practitioners in prison. When one of them is killed by police, the others become distraught, but experience a heavenly scene which gives them the strength to persevere.
"What I understood from that was it doesn't matter if you are in jail; if your mind is free, you are free. You can never be in jail if your mind is free. I enjoyed that very much."
The Water Nymphs performance also left a particular impression on Bahawa.
"The water gave the sensation of freedom and the beginning of life… everything has to do with water. It is very, very important for all of us, as we come from water."
"I want to congratulate [the show]; I came here with a group of people from the embassy, and everybody is more than pleased with this experience," she said.
Bahawa's assistant was also impressed with the show.
"I was expecting something nice, and this was more than what I expected. The show places you in another dimension, which is completely different than normal life. That is one of the reasons why I enjoyed it and the other one are the beautiful dresses of course. I heard that there was a special designer."
"I really liked it because there was something new which was something inspiring for me. I also liked the movements and the colors"
The Spectacular also piqued her interest about Chinese culture, the current human rights situation in China, and the Chinese Consulate's attempts in interfering with the Spectacular .
"I was very impressed with the show because it displays such beauty."
The Spectacular will continue to play at the International Congress Centre until the 16th March.
