PRAGUE, Czech Republic—Four longtime friends traveled across the Czech Republic to watch the Chinese Spectacular together on March 11 in Prague. With tears still in her eyes, Eva Votapkova explained how deeply moving all four women found the performance at the Prague Congress Center.
"We were taken away by the show. All four of us are crying and we are touched … it was beautiful," said Votapkova, a social worker who came from Chrudim, 217 miles away. Votapkova said she'd be taking the train directly home after the afternoon performance.
Eva Tassova, who works in a pottery shop, tried to explain what it was about the performance that moved her and her friends to tears: "The overall execution, choreography, the dancing. ... The performance is moving the nations closer to each other."
Her friend Marta Mouckova said it was "the majesty" of the performance and the way the costumes, music, and all elements of the show came together in a way they'd never seen before. "Everything together was beautiful," said the retired postal worker.

"And also, those three words at the end [truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance] I will remember forever. They represent nations getting closer to each other," she said.
The fourth woman, a retired chemist, added that it was the "expression of the feeling through the dance" and making it "not necessary to know the language" in order to understand what the performers were conveying.
Votapkova said that it was meaningful that the friends came from so far to attend the show together. "We looked forward to it, and the performance is unique, so it was worth the effort to travel a long way." Two of the women came from Ostrava and Havirov, far east of Prague, near the Polish border.
"Amazing, fantastic … it completely surpassed our expectations," said Votapkova. "Now we are thrilled, so in one word—big excitement."
Commenting on the Chinese Embassy's attempt to prevent people from attending the performance, Votapkova said,
"Why would we be prevented from seeing such beauty?"
