TAICHUNG−Tsai Mingxiong, the director of the Chinese Martial Arts Association in Taipei City, accompanied his wife and instructor Chen Zhongyou to the third show of the Divine Performing Arts' Chinese Spectacular in Taiwan. "The show features compact programs that are very entertaining. The Divine Performing Arts is really amazing, especially as the show is done on a global scale. They are really very impressive," said Mr. Tsai.
"My favorite program is the singing by the soprano Huang Biru," exclaimed Tsai referring to the local artist from the city of Taichung. "She sang very well and is the pride of Taichung!"
The Secretary General of the Chinese Martial Arts Association Chen Zhongyou, is also a teacher at the National Taiwan Sport University, as well as offering lessons in the dragon and lion dances. For Chen, the performance spoke to him immediately. "Although all the programs are very nice, the one that delivers the most lasting impression for me is the opening program. It was very powerful," said Chen. "I believe that even in modern society, there are many kings and gods such as those in the storyline that help us along in our daily lives. This program offered me a completely different view of society, people, and the universe."
Chen also praised set design, making particular mention of the exquisite and flawless combination of moving backdrop and story line in the segment titled "Rising Lotus." "The backdrop blended well into the dance. This allowed the dancers and the computer animation to blend seamlessly—I think this combination is very creative. The male dancers' movements are all very realistic and blended well with the music. In addition, the emotions expressed by the female dancers fit very well into the storyline. I feel that this performance is really very unique."
Chen also expressed his opinion on the segment featuring the Tang-style drums. "'Drummers of the Tang Court' exhibited a strong sense of kingliness. The dance is amazing as the performers can still beat to the music while dancing; they don't seem to be restricted by the drums on them. They must have put in a lot of effort, and the choreography itself is undoubtedly superior."
