PRAGUE, Czech Republic—Playing in the Czech Republic for the first time, the Chinese Spectacular opened at the Prague Congress Center on Monday, delighting the audience with its portrayal fo Chinese culture.

Jiri Liska, a Senator from the Czech Republic, spoke of his impressions after the show.

"It was extraordinary. What I found the most engaging was that even though Chinese culture is so different from western culture and we have different histories, we are actually very close," he said.

"Our basic wishes, ambitions, and values are similar — we want to live happy and peaceful life."

Leos Zidek, who also attended Monday's show, was deeply moved by the performance.

"It was expressive. What I admire about it is how much beauty and purity is found in show. You don't find that nowadays in society anymore."

As a former political prisoner, Zidek could relate to certain aspects of the show.

"This performance confirmed to me that there are people in China who are searching for something else than what is happening now."

"The scenes that depict the persecution are very touching to me because I myself experienced several years of being a political prisoner."

Zidek was referring to two scenes in the show depicting a contemporary tragedy in China: the persecution of Falun Gong, a meditation practice and spiritual discipline currently being brutally suppressed by the Chinese regime.

He said he sincerely hopes that change will come about for the people of China.
