PRAGUE, Czech Republic — The Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular premiered at the Congress Center of Prague on Monday to a delighted audience.
Mita Dencev Vontambel, a folk and jazz composer, said he enjoyed the blend of eastern and western instruments in the show.
"The show was very good. I liked the combination of the western orchestra music together with Classical Chinese music. It was really nice.
"I liked the arrangement of instruments from the western to the eastern, it wasn't all classical Chinese music." Vontambel added that Chinese music resonates with him, especially the erhu. The erhu is a two-stringed instrument known for its wide range of notes and mellow, haunting sound.
"I have a strong connection to Chinese music. One of my favorite instruments is the Erhu, I really like the sounds it makes. I like the Chinese culture as well. I liked the use of the pentatonic scale and how they used it to construct the instruments of the east and west. It was all very nice."
By the end of its international tour, the Chinese Spectacular will have played at 65 cities around the world to an audience of about 650,000 people.
