PRAGUE—A member of the Czech Parliament, Marek Benda, was at the well-attended opening performance of the Chinese Spectacular in Prague on Monday night.

"I find it fascinating. I have a feeling it is partly made for Western culture, enabling us to understand it. I have two children with me—one is six and the other is eight. Both of them had a wonderful time," he said.

"It is a beautiful picture about the greatness of China—a picture of how ancient and profound the culture is. I think that we [Westerners] can appreciate it."

He said that the show presented a respect and humbleness for the divine that is missing in China today.

Mr. Benda, whose father was a prominent dissident in the former communist-ruled Czechoslovakia, made clear his opinions on the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP's) interference with the show.

"The Chinese embassy always tries to scare people." However, he said that in the Czech Republic they have gotten used to people holding events that uphold human rights. "I think we have [given them a lesson]," and now CCP interference has become much less.

"I think that Chinese leaders should realize that one day freedom will come, and the more strictly they keep their regime the more they will be criticised."
