TAINAN—Although quite busy with the Tainan Lantern Festival, Dr. Yan Chunzheng, Vice County Mayor of Tainan County, squeezed some time out of his tight schedule to watch the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular on Saturday in Tainan.

"Such elements as choreography, costume designs, the incorporation of music into the dancing, and the application of technology will inspire awe among Taiwanese dancers," said Yan during the intermission.

The Vice County Mayor attended the show with his wife, their two children and his mother. He was particularly impressed with the dance 'The Risen Lotus Flower.'

"The choreography as well as the final appearance of Buddha is awe-inspiring."

He said he had watched many performances by Taiwanese groups but had never seen such an impressive production. He hoped the Spectacular could be a reference for Taiwanese performing groups if they want to present the country's culture on the international stage.

"The basic requirement is to lay a cultural foundation. A good cultural foundation is of great importance. Therefore, we should invite more outstanding foreign performing groups like the Divine Performing Arts to Taiwan to stage their performances."

Yan pointed out that the Spectacular, with its state of the art high tech backdrops, proves that technology can be incorporated into culture and result in an excellent performance.

Tainan County is known as a hub of technology and many of its high-tech products are recognized worldwide. This prompted Yan to suggest that Taiwan advance its cultural performances by learning from the Divine Performing Arts.
