NEW YORK—A traditional Indian dancer who performed Bharatanatyan dancing in India, Usha Dorai saw the Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City Music Hall Friday evening.
"I had a real treat today," said Dorai after seeing the show.
"It was very good … When you see it as a dancer, you know how tough it is and how coolly they've done each of the steps. The synchronization of the whole [group of dancers] with the music that's kind of very tough, without even a small folly—everyone has done a very good job."
Dorai said she particularly liked lead dancer Michelle Ren in "The Risen Lotus Flower" dance.
"She was very good—perfection. Her leg movements, her hand movements, everything was really awesome," said Dorai.
Dorai came with her husband Swami Dorai, a Wall Street software engineer.
"The dances were fabulous and it was a visual treat … everything coming together, perfection—that's what I would call it," said Swami Dorai.
Swami said that he had originally thought the show would have more of a focus on history in China, but in the end it didn't matter.
"I got sucked in," said Swami.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Dorai agreed that Indian culture and Chinese culture share a lot of similarities.
"I see a lot of similarity between India and China, both countries have a lot of culture and follow a lot of traditions," said Usha.
"They [both] have cultures that go way back," said Swami.
Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, Feb. 9.
