NEW YORK—The Chinese New Year Splendor is an inspiration to the audience — or at least to one computer technician from New Jersey. Alonso Agudelo attended Thursday night's performance of the Splendor at Radio City Music Hall, who said, "I love it. The choreography is amazing."
Agudelo, who came to the show with friends, currently lives in North Bergen, New Jersey, but originally hails from Columbia. He was enthusiastic about the overall show, as well as the individual performances.
"I love it, it's great," said Agudelo. "With the music and dance, it's really beautiful."
His favorite performance was the two-stringed Chinese violin, known as the erhu.
"That sound goes deep inside of me," commented Agudelo about an erhu song performed during the first half of the show. "It's hard to explain in words…the entire show is great."
As for the several solo vocal performances in the Splendor, Agudelo didn't hesitate to sing their praises.
"The singers are professional," he said. "Professional—all of them."
Agudelo, who has never attended a Chinese-themed entertainment event, felt he experienced something new and unique.
"This is my first time being exposed to Chinese culture," he said. "I really like it."
In fact, Agudelo was so impressed with the display of traditional Chinese culture and values in the Splendor that he plans to read some books about Chinese history.
"I don't read much about Chinese culture," he confesses. "But I'm going to pick up some books about it after the show."
As for telling others about the remaining three shows the Splendor will have until Feb. 9, Agudelo says, "I would recommend it."
The Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, Feb. 9.
