NEW YORK—On February 3, 2007, senior media executive Li Yong and his wife watched the Chinese New Year Splendor show in the Radio City Music Hall in New York. Li said that this show let people know about the real Chinese culture and is bringing glory to all Chinese people.
Li was born in China's Guangxi Province, and grew up in Taiwan. He is one of the founders of overseas Chinese newspapers United Daily and World Journal . Li's editorials have had a great impact in Chinese society.
He was famous, on one occasion, for telling a high-ranking Chinese communist official to "be a Chinese and not the children of Marx and Lenin," when he visited Mainland China.
Li said that the Splendor's dances and Erhu performance brought out China's five thousand years of civilization. The spirit of standing up against persecution is very precious.
"The drums are great and professionally presented. The program is full of masculinity and courage, which is rarely seen in Chinese shows," said Li.
"[Divine Performing Arts] had better shows than other performances that claim to represent Chinese culture, which were boring. The composition, storylines, arrangement, performance, and techniques in the Splendor show are top quality. The show brought us Chinese glory and presented the true China."
Li's wife said that the production is groundbreaking. "It is truly efficient and organized. The team behind the scenes is magnificent. The production of other shows simply can't match up to such efficiency. The choreography and singing are great. This type of performance will be very successful in the United States."
