BEIJING—On February 2, Saturday, a female traveler was crushed to death at a railway station in Guangzhou City in Guangdong Province, according to state-owned media, People's Daily Net.
On her way from Bailuo Town in Hubei Province's Jianli County, Li Hongxia—a worker at a watch factory in Guangzhou' Fanyu District—was trying to catch the 8:00 p.m. train on February 1. Li took the subway from Fanyu with many fellow villagers, and arrived in Guangzhou railway station on the same day.
Because train traffic had been delayed due to a snow disaster, the station was besieged by a crowd eager to return home.
A mob of 40,000 travelers, including stranded passengers, poured into the square and its momentum separated Li from her fellow villagers.
Li was shoved to the ground nearby an inner-city bus station. In a serious coma, Li was sent to a local hospital for treatment. Despite emergency procedures, she died a few hours later.
