The first preformance of Divine Performing Arts' Chinese Spectacular in Paris took off with success Friday, February 29.
The twenty numbers preformed let the Parisien public learn about the 5,000 years of Chinese culture. Effectively, a large fan of traditions, legends, and other Chinese cultural aspects was displayed by Divine Performing Arts.
Drums, chopsticks, fans, etc. were on the scene to paint a complete picture of China, from the ancient to the contemporary.
The "Mongolian Bowl Dance," where female dancers perform with three bowls balanced on top of their heads made an impression on Mathieau Smith. "It was superb. I was in China a week ago and I attended some shows, but they were not as good as this one."
Having lived in China and worked there in the field of music, Chen Rutang, the conductor of the orchestra which accompanies the dancers said "we are totally committed to sharing these riches with the rest of the world ... The highest compliment I heard came from a Western audience member who "never had seen a show as nice as this, even after going to China many times."
Mr. Létoile, an engineer who worked for many years in Taiwan, declared that he "adored" the show. But beyond the cultural aspect of the show, the spiritual dimension, the human rights in China, were equally appreciated by audience members. "Chinese culture is based on tolerance and on openness. This show show is very spiritual" said Mr. Létoile.
Some people came principally for this spiritual aspect of the show. Francois Forzan, a Parisien nurse, said "I read an article in a magazine that talked about positive values transmitted by this show, so I decided to come specially for that ... and I really liked it a lot! It was varied, with dances and songs ... totally different from what we normally see!"
Divine Preforming Arts, which will give another three performances of it's show in Paris, through the second of March, received a standing ovation from the audience and the conclusion of opening night.
