ANTWERP, Belgium—A diverse crowd filled Antwerp's Stadsschouwburg Wednesday afternoon to feast their eyes on the renowned Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular.
"I like the show very much, it's very colourful, very authentic, the costumes are very beautiful. It gives us more an idea of the history of the country, it's really good," said John Graham, secretary of the Western European International Organization of Folk Arts.
Managers Marleen van der Heuvel and Hilde Bernard agreed. "It's unbelievable. It's something we are not really used to," said van der Heuvel.
"Wonderful, really beautiful," said Bernard. "[It's] different from other shows. The colors, the movements… the harp, the drums, the triangle… they are special sounds compared to our western instruments. Chinese music is very unique. It is wonderful, really worthwhile." Erik de Kop, an employee of a cultural museum also enjoyed the show.

"The erhu, the two stringed instrument; what an incredible virtuoso was that! It really touched me. That was really, really beautiful."
"We found it really refreshing, very different from our culture," added de Koop.
Another audience member, advertisement and marketing specialist Van der Velden said, "The sound and light coordination [was] excellent."
Having had some previous exposure to Chinese performance, der Velden added, "It is very traditional and classical. It has a little influence from modern culture. I highly recommend it."
