ANTWERP, Belgium—Delighted audience members who attended the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at Anterwerp's Stadsschouwburg on Wednesday afternoon praised the performance for its beauty and depth.

"Overwhelming, lovely," said Bruno Deboeure who came with friend Gilberte van Grotos.

"It's quite strange, but during the show I felt a sense of victory. The ballet of the Mongolian Bowl Dance was excellent. I have the impression that they want to convey a spiritual message. We didn't expect this," said Deboeure.

"They bring out a message that they would like to tell in China, but are not allowed to bring. That's how we experience it," he added.

Van Grotos described the show as "very emotional" and that the message was conveyed in a nice way. "Very touching," she said.

"They want to create goodwill among people through music and dance. The way the tenor and the female singers sang touched me deeply, it is very special and it did something to me," added van Grotos.

She said she appreciated the text of the songs being projected on the digital back-drops which made it easy to follow what the Chinese performers were singing.

Her favourite performance was the Mongolian Bowl Dance in which female dancers whirl about the stage with delicate bowls balanced on their heads.

"It brings alive the traditional folk culture: the clothes of this dance are based on the traditional way of clothing of the Mongolian people," she said.

The Han family, who traveled from Brussels to Antwerp to watch the Spectacular, praised it for its beauty and colour.

One of the daughters said she liked the water fairies the most because of their beautiful colours. The mother said that everything was beautiful and that it was the first time they had seen a live Chinese show.

"It was nice."

"I am very happy to see the show, and I liked everything," said retired secretary Monique Van Roi.

"I found the individual singers accompanied by the piano good, especially this tenor [Guan Guimin], whom people call the Chinese Pavarotti."

After Antwerp, the Divine Performing Arts tour will continue on to Paris, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
