ANTWERP, Belgium—Mr. Carlos Linde en Ria Houte, a teacher and natural-health professional who lives in Aaschot, came to see the Chinese Spectacular in Antwerp on the evening of Feb. 27.
"We think the show is very beautiful, very colorful, and contains lots of variety," he said.
"We looked at the movie on the Internet and bought tickets."
"I think the content of the show is sometimes daring—very explicit about the persecution—and the symbols are very strong," said Mr. Linde en Ria Houte
"What appeals very much to me are the colors and the music with the dance. It now becomes clear to me how we can imagine Chinese culture to be. In the music, one can clearly hear an influence from the West. You can hear the Western instruments in between."
He added, "The diversity from Chinese culture clearly shows in the Spectacular, and each part of Chinese culture shows its characteristics. One can see that Chinese people are looking for their authenticity again. For years they have not been allowed to show their authenticity. This shows during the performance."
