ANTWERP, Belgium—Two friends who attended the Chinese Spectacular at Antwerp's Stadsschouwburg Theatre on Wednesday gave the show rave reviews.

"The show was great. It's not only about colours and energy but also about something inside," said Chiara Boe, a journalist who attended the matinee.

"It was really nice. I feel the union of vocalists, artists, dancers, and the Erhu was very special, you can feel it inside."

The erhu is a two-stringed Chinese instrument known for its wide range of notes and haunting sound.

"In Paris we listened to a poor man playing the same kind of violin in the tube in the middle of the night. We gave him money and he played for us and we found it so beautiful, said Stefano Guarandi, who works for NATO.

Originally from Italy and currently living in Brussels, the friends heard about the Spectacular in Paris.

"In the show it is all beautifully combined, and the colour is fantastic as I had imagined. The typology of the dance is different; in Italy we have a classic tradition," said Boe.

Boe said she had just returned from a trip to Thailand.

"In Thailand they are much more distant, don't connect. This here is different, they are silent but they connect. Here they give a spiritual dimension to emotion. They try to give something."

"It will be our pleasure to come back next year."
