ANTWERP—Jaak Van de Velde, a lighting specialist for theatre productions says the Chinese Spectacular is "phenomenal."

Mr Van de Velde lives in Ghent. He was at the show in Antwerp on Tuesday evening.

"I found the show to be sparkling, an incredible professional standard," he said.

"To compare, it is phenomenal, there are many professional ballet groups that must come and have a look here, if they want to let the "corps de ballet" dance in unison."

He enjoyed the performances with traditional Chinese culture and dance.

"I completely found that, what the two hosts clarified could be found back in the dance and singing."

He said the Chinese opera singing was new to him. "But I found it phenomenal, for me Chinese was always in the high tones but the lady actually had a bit of a baritone-bass voice, for a while I was ...yes I found it phenomenal."

He also enjoyed the orchestra.

"I think the orchestra is phenomenal, also the sound amplifying to the audience. I actually have to say…this sound amplifying is perfect for me."

He said his only suggestion was that he found the lighting to be slightly monochrome.

"I assume this is to make things more clear, to allow the image to come out better but I would like to see some more drama in the light," he said.

He said the backdrops and the costumes were beautiful.

"I think it is phenomenal, nothing about that, but there could be added little diversity in the monochrome light to allow the costumes to come out even better."
