Accountant Thrilled by Contralto's Performance

ANTWERP, Belgium—On February 26, 2008, Divine Performing Arts staged its first of two performances of the Chinese Spectacular at the packed Stadsschouwburg Theatre in Antwerp, the diamond capital of the world. At the show's conclusion, the typically introverted Belgian audience demonstrated their appreciation to Divine Performing Arts with overwhelming applause, and a several-minute standing ovation.

It's certainly not that the people of Antwerp are not accustomed to top cultural performances. In its long history of both classical dance and music, Belgium has learned to appreciate the presence of the great masters of the arts. But tonight, however, the audience saw something different than another excellent show—it caught a glimpse of ancient China's grandeur.

During the intermission, Ivo Deprez, an accountant from Brasschaat in the Antwerp region, said he was thrilled by contralto Yang Jiansheng's deep voice.

He also gained some insight in Chinese culture through watching the show. "The choreography of the dancers and the colors of the clothes impressed me," he said. "[Divine Performing Arts] really made a lot of efforts. I didn't know much of the old Chinese culture, and I came to taste its atmosphere. I had a very good impression, and look forward to the second part!"
