Chinese Visitor in Korea: 'One word—Awestruck!'

SEOUL—On Feb. 23, 2008, the Divine Performing Arts Company's second performance at the Grand Peace Palace of the Kyung Hee University in Korea received rousing applause from not only the local theatergoers, but also travelers from mainland China.

Ms. Liu Ying (alias), from Qingdao city in China, traveled to Korea with her daughter to catch the first showing after reading a special report on the Divine Performing Arts in the Epoch Times newspaper. After seeing the performance, Liu called an Epoch Times reporter to say that the performance left her awestruck.

Liu exclaimed that the only way to describe her feelings after the show was "awestruck," yet she could not express with any known language just how her soul had been greatly shaken. She said that the performance played over and over again in her mind after she returned home, and the beauty of the costumes, stage backdrop and choreography far surpassed aestheticism.

To Liu, "Ladies of the Manchu Court" dance fully expressed the beauty and softness of traditional Chinese women. The dancers' movements resembled a gentle breeze caressing the surface of water—tranquil yet alive, and thriving with profound inner meaning.

"Drummers of the Tang Court" was a majestic and momentous dance that displayed the vigor and air of young men. In addition, the dance "Awakening" shook her heart, and left her uplifted and inspired to do good.

Liu's two-year-old daughter, who hardly ever remains quiet during children's movies, stayed fully engaged and quiet throughout the entire performance. Liu was also surprised to find her daughter able to applauded like an adult after each performance.

Ms. Du, another traveler from China, saw the performance with two friends. They praised the performance for going beyond their expectations and opening their eyes to the broad and profound scope of Chinese culture.

Ms. Du said emotionally, "A performance that displays the traditional Chinese culture so wonderfully can only be seen outside of China. What a pity."
