LONDON—Marilyn, an 88-year-old tourist guide, and her friend Odile from France say they have never seen anything like the Chinese Spectacular before. They were at the final performance in London on Sunday.
Marilyn said the show was "Absolutely excellent".
"Never seen anything like it before, beautiful. Never seen anything like that before. Never. Beautiful. The costumes, the dancing, the singing-excellent," she enthused.
Odile agreed, "This is wonderful, it's the best thing I've seen, and I'm an old woman. I've never seen anything like it. I've been to theatres for years."
"This is marvellous, the best—ever. I liked everything, and the culture—yeah fabulous," she said.
Odile said all of the performers were very good.
"I especially liked the horse-music. The costumes, the dancing was first class. The scenery, the music – everything's perfect, for me," she said.
"It's just too good, too good," she said.
Marilyn also liked the commentaries in English and Chinese but she said the time passed too quickly.
"I didn't realize it was the interval already oh! I didn't look at my watch once … You become mesmerized."
She said the orchestra was good and she enjoyed the soloist singers.
"It opens your eyes a bit more, and it makes you see more of the Chinese culture in depth. The classical dancing is very good."
Marilyn normally attends the Chinese New Year, and said the celebrations are very good in England.
Eighty-nine-year-old Shiran Desolva, a former banker of Sri-Lankan-Portuguese descent was also at the show on Sunday.
"And it's quite intriguing to watch it and the choreography and everything else is quite nice too."
Mr. Desolva has lived in China, Mongolia, Tibet, Yunnan and Urumqi and said the show was "pretty much most of the philosophy, about life today".
He said he enjoyed the "Mongolian Bowl Dance" because "we've enjoyed a lot of the different Mongolian [dances] we spent a lot of time in Mongolia and so on".
