LONDON—Ilse Rispoli attended the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at London's Royal Festival Hall on Saturday because she was curious about Chinese culture.
"I just wanted to see this, because it's a different culture which I am just beginning to get to know," said Rispoli during the intermission. "It's fabulous, I really like it."
"What I find is the gracefulness is so different, you know, to our culture. It's very different to our own performances, to how we westerners perform. I think it's just very graceful and colourful, and the costumes are so fabulous," she said.
A retired herbalist originally from Austria, Rispoli was also impressed by the values portrayed in the Spectacular —values that were lived by in ancient China.
"The spirituality aspect has come through as well, that you can transcend from a lower level to a higher level of living if you really want to try. And if you behave in the way that you should behave, in a nice way, you can get back the fruits of it later on."
Her favourite piece was Water Fairies. "I loved the water fairies, they were absolutely fantastic."
"It's just fabulous, I'm looking forward to the second half!"
